I’ll admit it: I’ve never actually used one. I don’t even know how to. The only time I think I ever touched one was when I was back in LatchKey in middle school. Of course, then I didn’t know what one was. I remembered the name though– Abacus. What an exotic name.
Even when I learned later in life that it was used to do math, I remember thinking, “Wouldn’t it just be easier to do the math?”
So, here’s what this page is really about. It’s an experiment in SEO. This morning, when I woke up, I had a desire to make a Facebook fan page about the Abacus. Why the Abacus? I have absolutely no idea; it just popped into my head as I was getting out of bed. As I was getting into the shower, I thought it was weird as hell that I arose with a desire to create something so trivial. It was so weird that I kept exploring the concept– so much so that when I got home I started working on it. So here it is: My Facebook fan page on the Abacus.
The experiment is simple. If I create a fan page for something as trivial as an Abacus, and then get a couple people to follow it, can that page rank for the word Abacus. It’s not a really competitive term, so it seems like it shouldn’t be hard. Next, can a blog post that links to this page, and has a reciprocal link back, also rank for the term. I’m not going to do anything crazy to solicit inlinks, except for a plug for both from my twitter account.
If this produces any results, I’ll post them here.
